Background:
As the Belt and Road initiative has been moving forward smoothly, China’s geopolitical influence in related areas has been improved significantly. In order to balance China’s increasing regional impact, India strongly advocated the Asia-Africa Growth Corridor trying to compete against the ‘maritime silk road’ with the help of Japan and the America. Under the circumstances, we need to discuss the triangular strategic interaction of the United States, India and Japan and how would China respond.
About the Speaker:
Ian Taylor is a professor in International Relations and African Politics at University of St Andrews, and also chair professor in the School of International Studies, Renmin University of China. He is one of the most famous experts in the field of African Politics and has been working on China-Africa relations and the Competition between China and India in Africa for many years.
Abstract:
This lecture will first introduce the Asia-Africa Growth Corridor brought out by Japan and India. Then it will turn to the analysis of the underlying strategic intentions and the impact on the regional situation as well as the international relations based on the geopolitical theory.
