The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is transforming from a regional international organization into a major political and economic cooperation mechanism across the Eurasian continent. The Tianjin Summit is expected to become a significant milestone in the SCO’s development history.
First, the “SCO+” format has continuously expanded the scope of participating members, many of which are important regional powers. By bringing together these influential countries, the SCO serves as a platform for the “Global South” to shape international affairs.
Second, with China as the host country, the Tianjin Summit is expected to achieve important progress on many pressing international political, economic, and security issues. The SCO has evolved from its initial focus on functional security cooperation to broader strategic cooperation.
Finally, the growing diversity of actors participating in the SCO has strengthened the foundation for cooperation at both business and societal levels. This provides a fundamental guarantee for the SCO’s long-term existence and effectiveness.
