Center for Research on Global Public Diplomacy

Currently, the main dilemma for China to participate in the new round of globalization is as follows: while China’s economy has gone global, its public diplomatic ability in such basic aspects as global and regional economy, society, politics and culture is quite lagging behind. In other words, despite China’s rise as a great power, its insufficiency in public diplomacy has put it at a disadvantage in global game. Against such a background, the Center for Research on Global Public Diplomacy emerged at the right moment. Dedicated to constructing an interdisciplinary and inter-agency collaborative innovation mechanism, the Center focuses on current demands and aims to serve for national development strategies. It provides policy suggestions and innovative ideas for major foreign policy making of the government. It also exerts influence on domestic and overseas public opinions and reinforces understanding and dialogues among countries. Research areas and contents of the Center mainly include: global think tank development and public diplomacy, construction of public diplomacy theory and case library in China, public diplomatic strategy and responsive policy in China, and national image and soft power.
