Center for Research on Social Transition and the Rule of Law

Focusing on key theoretical and practical issues in China’s social transition process, the Center for Research on Social Transition and the Rule of Law organizes scholars from such disciplines as organizational sociology, law, politics, journalism and communication, public administration, agricultural economy and social development to conduct interdisciplinary research. The core task is to provide a series of think tank research achievements for modern transition and governance of the Chinese society so as to promote modernization and legalization of the state governance system and capacity.

Researchers from the School of Sociology and Population Studies, the Law School, the School of Journalism and Communication, the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, the School of Public Administration and Policy and the National Survey Research Center of RUC have rendered positive social influence by publishing quality academic paper, submitting policy research reports, drafting key CPC and national documents and participating in public policy making.

Director and special researcher of the Center for Research on Social Transition and the Rule of Law, NADS; PhD in Law, RUC; Master of Law, Temple University of the US; Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of the Law School of RUC; Chief Editor for Chaoyang Law Review; Director of the Center for Law and Religion of RUC; special expert hired by the United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee and the State Administration for Religious Affairs of China; Assessment Expert for the National Social Science Foundation; Assessment Expert for MOE Humanities and Social Science Project and Changjiang Scholars Program; Secretary-General of China Research Society for Legislative Science; Feitian Scholar of Gansu; Visiting Scholar at Harvard Law School; Chief Lecturer of the program “Story and Law”, CCTV; directed many key research projects of the National Social Science Foundation; received the award nomination at the 7th session of the National Ten Outstanding Young Jurists; published 8 academic monographs and 5 translation works; chief editor for 6 textbooks and collected paper; published over 140 pieces of Chinese and English paper on important journals such as China Legal Science; participated in the document research and drafting work for the 4th plenary session of 18th CPC Central Committee; participated in the compiling of key documents for the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee, MOE and China Law Society; exerted extensive influence in such research areas as jurisprudence, legislative science, economics of law and religious law.

Post-doctoral Fellow at the School of Public Policy and Management, Tsinghua University; Visiting Scholar atUC Berkeley and the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Associate Professor of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, RUC; chaired projects of the National Social Science Foundation and China Postdoctoral Science Foundation; received award nomination for National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation; received the award for paper at the first session of China Rural Development Research Award; received award at the first session of Chinese Women Research Award and other academic rewards; published such monographs as Election Incident and Village Politics and Rural NGO and Rural Development in China: Case Studies; published paper on key domestic journals such as Social Sciences in China, Sociological Studies, and Strategy and Management; founder and Executive Chief Editor for China Nonprofit Review (Chinese and English editions); major research orientations in recent years include rural governance, mass disturbance, electoral politics and youth education.
