Against the backdrop of China’s on-going urbanization, the Center for Urbanization Research focuses on key urbanization issues such as labor mobility, land transfer and transformation of agricultural production and operation modes and studies China’s urbanization development pathways and policies by employing detailed empirical investigation and solid research methods so as to build talent pool, information bank and exchange platform for China’s urbanization research. Depending on its diversified team composition and quality education resources of RUC, while carrying out multidisciplinary, cross-over and comprehensive research on China’s urbanization development, the Center has also actively organized academic exchange and scientific research activities to promote academic discussions and sharing. The Center has exerted positive social influence by publishing academic papers, submitting policy research reports and participating in public interactions.

Yang Ruilong
Co-director of the Institute of Economic Research of RUC; Distinguished Professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program, MOE and Guest Professor of Durham University, UK. Yang has published a batch of influential scientific findings in such research areas as institutional economics, enterprise theory and disequilibrium economics, won the 8th and 10th Sun Yefang Fiscal Science Award, the first award at the 3rd session of Excellent Achievements in Humanity and Social Science in Domestic Universities, first award (3rd, 4th, 6th and 8thsessions) for Beijing Philosophy and Social Science Achievements, the excellence award at the 4th session of Wu Yuzhang Humanity and Social Science Award. Yang is selected as the level 1 and level 2 candidate for the “New Century Talents Project” organized by MOHRSS and the candidate for the MOE “Trans-century Training Programme for Talents”, rated as the “scientific, technological and administrative expert with outstanding contributions” in Beijing, granted the title of “Excellent Communist Party Member” in Beijing, offered the MOE “Young Teacher Award” and entitled to the State Council’s special allowance.

Tao Ran
Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Oxford, UK. Tao currently serves as a Professor of the School of Economics of RUC, the Deputy Dean of Hanqing Advanced Institute of Economics and Finance of RUC and the non-resident senior researcher for the diplomatic policy program of the Brookings Institution. His research in recent years is focused on the political economics for medium and high growth in China’s economic transition process, land and household registration system reform during China’s urbanization process, rural development, local governance and public finance. In recent years, he has published over 30 pieces of English paper on such English journals as Journal of Comparative Economics, Development Research, Land Economics, Urban Studies, Political Studies, the China Quarterly and Land Use Policy. Meanwhile, he has also published over 40 pieces of paper on authoritative and core Chinese social science journals, including Social Sciences in China, Economic Research Journal and Management World.
