Center for Research on World Economy and International Politics

Against the macro-background where China’s economy is undergoing fast and continuous growth and this country has blended with the globe with regards to politics, economy, culture, science & technology and education, the Center is dedicated to conducting in-depth research on existing key international issues and urgent diplomatic issues faced by China so as to serve the consultation and decision-making needs of the Chinese government in handling foreign relations. The Center stresses an integrated study of major international political and economic issues and encourages the use of interdisciplinary analytical methods. With a reasonable composition of age groups-the old, the young and the middle-aged, the Center’s research force is mainly composed of scholars from the School of International Studies and the School of Economics, most of whom are equipped with great international communication abilities. In an effort to enhance understanding, communicate ideas and carry out civil diplomacy, the Center also actively spreads research achievements, enlarges academic influence and reinforces exchange with international academic peers through such activities as releasing research reports, press interviews, academic conference, forum and seminar and policy consultation.

Fang Changping

Visiting Scholar at Cornell University; Executive Deputy Secretary-General and Executive Director of the International Politics Research Society of Universities of China; Editorial Board Member for the Journal of International Studies. Fang’s research areas include: theory and methodology of international relations, security of East Asia, China’s peripheral security environment and strategy, soft power and etc. Fang has published over 20 pieces of academic paper on such journals as World Economics and Politics, Chinese Journal of European Studies, Contemporary International Relations, Teaching and Research, and the Chinese Journal of International Politics. Fang’s monograph Analyzing the Constructivism of National Interest (the Contemporary World and China Series) received the 3rd session of “Husheng Academic Award for the Young”.

Selected into the MOE New Century Talent Support Program; Vice President of China Society of World Economics; Executive Director of China Association for International Economic Cooperation. Lei’s research areas include: world economics, international investment and finance, and international political economy. Lei’s major works include Financial Development and Liberalization and International Economy Coordination Theory.
