Center for Public Communication Research

The Center for Public Communication Research is dedicated to conducting systematic, normal and multidimensional research on public communication and main public sentiments via crossover and interdisciplinary cooperation so as to provide explanations and solutions for social consensus and identification issues under the context of transition. The Center has worked with professional institutes to jointly build big data and public communication analysis platforms, integrate interdisciplinary resources spanning from communication, sociology, political science to management and construct monitoring, calculation and assessment system for major public issues and events. Based on the data platform and the assessment system, the Center can generate real-time, periodic and interdisciplinary monitoring reports and decision-making consulting reports.

Director

Hu Baijing

Executive Dean and Professor of the School of Journalism and Communication, RUC; Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of China International Public Relations Association; Visiting Scholar at the Department of Sociology, University of Chicago. Hu’s major research area is public communication and social identification. His focus in recent years has been put on intellectual history of identification, crisis communication and health communication. His major works include Public Relations, Crisis Communication Management and “the Report of Crisis Management of China”.

Deputy Director

Zhang Di

Zhang works with the School of Journalism and Communication, RUC. Zhang’s research orientations include: public relations, social media, media sociology and quantitative research methods. Zhang received a doctor’s degree in mass communication and a master’s degree in applied statistics at Syracuse University of the US, and a master’s degree in political communication at University of Sheffield of the UK. Zhang finished undergraduate study in international journalism at Beijing Broadcasting Institute (later the Communication University of China). Before entering the academic circle, Zhang served at the economy sector of China Daily and CCTV International (CCTV-9).
