NADS (RUS) held International Video Meeting on the Situation in Europe and America under the Pandemic and Its Impact

The International Video Meeting on the Situation in Europe and America under the Pandemic and Its Impact was held on the evening of April 22. The meeting was organized by the Foreign Affairs Research Center of the National Academy of Development and Strategy (NADS), RUC. Liu Yuanchun, Vice President of Renmin University of China, attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech, together with 9 other experts and scholars from China, Europe and America.

Participants exchanged their ideas on the situation in China, Europe and North America under the Covid-19 outbreak and its impacts on China-EU and Sino-US relations. The topics involve multiple fields, such as pandemic prevention, control and bailout plan for the pandemic, international strategies, politics, economy, technological innovation and public health. The meeting was presided over by Yue Xiaoyong, who is a Senior Research Fellow and the Director of the Foreign Affairs Research Center of NADS.

In his speech, Liu expressed his welcome and gratitude to all of the guests. He pointed out that the spread of Covid-19 weighed heavily on the well-being of countries and people across the world. In the face of such a challenging situation, conducting international exchanges and cooperation on the theme of fighting Covid-19 highlights the shared destiny and challenges facing the human community, which justifies the significance of the meeting held at such an important moment. Hopefully, this meeting can pool wisdom from various countries to provide accurate assessment for the pandemic, thus contributing to state governance with useful suggestions and the global alliance with extraordinary wisdom. NADS is expected to hold more meetings of this type and promote international exchanges in multiple forms, so as to seize the opportunities through bold innovations to create a brighter future.Following that, other participants also delivered keynote speeches, including Ivo Josipovic, Former President of Croatia ( a rotating EU presidency) and Professor in Law at University of Zagreb, Kevin O'Malley, Former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland and Former Adviser to the United States Department of Justice, Jasna Plevnik, Founder and President of the Geoeconomic Forum, Crotia, Raymond Yang, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of West Summit Capital and SVIEF ( Silicon Valley Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum ) Joint Chairman, Shi Yinhong, Counselor of the State Council and Professor of School of International Studies, RUC, Huang Shisong, Senior Research Fellow of the NADS, RUS, Xu Qinhua, Deputy Dean of NADS, RUC and Professor at University of International Relations, and Yue Xiaoyong, a senior research fellow at NADS, RUC.

During the exchange, participating experts, who are unanimously against politicizing the outbreak, agree that the Covid-19 is an unprecedented disaster facing the humanity and a common challenge for the international community, and it has deeply affected the international landscape, the way international relations work, and even the people’s social beliefs and living styles, which has posed severe threats to the safety, health and well-being of the people across the world. As a response, countries from all over the world must unite together and deepen exchanges to enhance mutual learning while dispelling prejudice, so as to realize more transparent and communicative international cooperation.
