19th Sino-US Political and Economic Forum: U.S. Critical Minerals Policy—Trends, Impacts, and Responses

On May 14, 2025, the 19th Sino-US Political and Economic Forum, hosted by the National Academy of Development and Strategy at Renmin University of China, was held online. This session of the forum was moderated by ZHAO Yong, a researcher at the National Academy of Development and Strategy and professor at the School of Economics at Renmin University of China.

In the first session of the forum, Professor SONG Feng, Director of the Department of Energy Economics at the School of Applied Economics, Renmin University of China, released a report titled “U.S. Critical Minerals Policy: Trends, Impacts, and Responses”. The report covered the following key areas: Definition of Critical Minerals; Trends in U.S. Critical Minerals Policy; Impacts on China; Limitations of U.S. Critical Minerals Policy; China’s Response Strategies.

In the second session, prominent experts and scholars in related fields—ZHU Qing, CHEN Weiqiang, HAN Liyan, HOU Lei, and WANG Xiaosong—engaged in an in-depth discussion on the content of the report.
