In the first unit of the forum, Professor Chen Zhanming, a research fellow at the National Academy of Development and Strategy at Renmin University of China, and vice president of the School of Applied Economics, released a report entitled “The Road to Energy Security in the United States”.

In this report, it provides policy suggestions for China’s energy secutiry.

Policy Suggestions for China’s Energy Security

Based on China’s actual national conditions and the experience of energy independence in the United States, this report proposes the following measures: In terms of energy supply, China should increase energy supply and ensure energy security through key technology research and policy coordination, renewable energy, nuclear energy, shale oil and gas, and other channels. At the same time, it is necessary to continue to strengthen our oil and gas supply and reserve capacity from both domestic and international perspectives. In terms of energy demand, China should strengthen energy conservation and efficiency improvement management with policy guidance and incentive measures, and gradually promote the transition to the usage of clean energy; On this basis, China should also build up cooperation with the international community, promote energy trade, actively participate in global energy governance, and enhance China’s energy security through multilateral exchanges. In particular, as the world’s two largest economies, energy consumers, and carbon emitters, China and the United States have great potential in energy cooperation, especially in the field of clean energy. It is recommended to deepen cooperation in cutting-edge technologies such as CCUS and nuclear fusion, and carry out market cooperation in applications such as nuclear power, energy storage, and electric vehicles, so as to promote the formation of a new global energy governance order.
