Index Construction of China’s Urban Labor Marketization

Time: March 29, 2019 (Friday) 14:00-16:10

Venue: Meeting Room 815, Chongde Building West Wing (Keyan Building Block A)

Host: Labor Market Research Center of National Academy of Development and Strategy (NADS), RUC

Background:

In the past forty years, China’s labor force has experienced a gradual transformation from planning system employment to marketizing employment, as labor mobility increases through continuing reduction of labor mobility barriers, thus improving resource allocation efficiency, unleashing initiative of micro-entities and increasing output. However, a general index to measuring marketization of China’s labor force is still in need, which leads to limits in examining China’s labor market situation, comparing disparities of labor marketization among regions as well as assessing the impact of the imbalance. As a result, the establishment of a policy to instruct factor market reform meets obstacles. An index of China’s urban marketization has been compiled by Labor Market Research Center of NADS, RUC, and is ready to be issued after discussed and modified by experts in related fields.
