Abstract:
In this lecture, Dr. Zhang Peng will use his article published in the Economic Journal, “Air Pollution and Manufacturing Firm Productivity: National Estimates for China,” as an example to provide a systematic overview of how to read academic literature, select research topics, write manuscripts, submit to journals, and respond to reviewers’ comments.
Reporter’s Bio:
Dr. Zhang Peng is currently a tenured Associate Professor of Economics at the School of Management and Economics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He serves as Associate Editor of the top development economics journal Journal of Development Economics and of the SSCI China Economic Review. He is also a recipient of the Guangdong Province Outstanding Youth Fund.
Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on environmental economics, development economics, labor economics, and health economics. His work has been published in leading journals including Journal of Political Economy Microeconomics, The Economic Journal, Journal of Public Economics (2 papers), Journal of Development Economics (9 papers), Journal of Environmental Economics and Management (3 papers), Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Nature Sustainability, The Journal of World Economy, and China Economic Quarterly, among others.
Dr. Zhang received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in June 2016. From 2016 to 2020, he was an Assistant Professor of Economics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
