On September 26, 2025, the 22nd Biweekly Policy Analysis Meeting, themed “High-Quality Development of the Huangyan Island National Nature Reserve”, was held. The event was jointly hosted by the National Academy of Development and Strategy and the School of Ecology and Environment, Renmin University of China, and was organized by the university’s National Park Research Center. The meeting was chaired by WANG Ke from the School of Ecology and Environment, Renmin University of China. Focusing on the high-quality development of the Huangyan Island National Nature Reserve, participating experts engaged in in-depth discussions on key issues related to the reserve’s planning, construction, and management.

Experts from multiple disciplines, including management, ecology, maritime law, and national sovereignty and security, elaborated on the significant role of establishing the Huangyan Island National Nature Reserve in safeguarding China’s South Sea’s ecological barrier, demonstrating national sovereignty, and filling the gap in tropical island and reef conservation in China. They also analyzed current challenges such as intensified climate change, invasive alien species, ecological degradation of islands and reefs, and insufficient research and monitoring capacity.

The experts put forward constructive recommendations such as promoting “one reserve, one law” for precise governance, deepening international cooperation, building an ecological monitoring network, and establishing mechanisms for public participation and environmental education. These insights provided new perspectives and ideas for achieving the high-quality development of the Huangyan Island National Nature Reserve.
