10th Biweekly Policy Analysis Meeting Successfully Held

On the afternoon of November 9, the 10th Biweekly Policy Analysis Meeting titled “Digital Technology Empowering New Scenarios for Cultural Consumption” was held. The event was hosted by the National Academy of Development and Strategy and the School of Applied Economics at Renmin University of China, with the Institute of Cultural Economy co-organizing. The seminar focused on digital technology and cultural consumption, exploring the latest trends in the digital transformation of the cultural industry and the creation of innovative cultural consumption scenarios. It also proposed suggestions for enhancing new productive forces and promoting the development of the cultural industry.

Scholars attending the event included Huang Hao, a researcher at the Institute of Financial Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and deputy director of the Service Economy and Internet Development Research Office; Song Yangyang, vice dean of the Institute for Creative Industries Technology at Renmin University; and professors Huang Juan, Li Yuexin, Zhang Zhongwen, Su Li, and assistant professor Dong Xiaoqi from the School of Applied Economics. The seminar was chaired by Professor Chen Zhanming, vice dean of the School of Applied Economics.

In her keynote speech titled “Digital Technology Empowering New Scenarios for Cultural Consumption”, Professor Huang Juan highlighted that digital technology not only enriches cultural consumption scenarios and enhances the diversity and personalization of residents’ cultural experiences but also significantly promotes the fairness of cultural consumption by lowering participation barriers and improving accessibility. She stressed that digitalization makes cultural consumption more inclusive, reducing the restrictions of income and education levels on cultural participation, and further diversifies cultural consumption.

Associate Professor Li Yuexin, leveraging her research project, analyzed how digital technology reshapes residents' cultural consumption habits and participation behavior from the demand side and examined the impact of these changes on social equity and individual well-being. She also unveiled the multidimensional mechanisms influencing residents’ spiritual and cultural needs and expressed plans to strengthen database development, employ rigorous analyses, and refine future research directions.

During the sharing and discussion session, participating scholars analyzed the impacts of digital technology on cultural consumption from various perspectives. Researcher Huang Hao called for further exploration of the diversity versus homogeneity of cultural consumption in the digital environment. Vice Dean Song Yangyang recommended refining statistical standards and data tracking to analyze the impact of budget constraints on consumption preferences. Associate Professor Zhang Zhongwen emphasized the new cultural consumption models introduced by the digital economy and their role in upgrading traditional cultural practices, suggesting an evaluation of the substitution effects of online on offline cultural consumption. Associate Professor Su Li analyzed the subjective nature of experiential cultural products and the reasons behind digital technology’s promotion of offline cultural consumption. Assistant Professor Dong Xiaoqi explored the mechanisms through which digital technology contributes to the development of cultural enterprises.

In conclusion, Professor Huang Juan stated that efforts would be made to optimize database content and enhance data collaboration to further uncover the research value of digital technology in cultural consumption. The seminar provided theoretical support and practical suggestions for the digital transformation and development of the cultural industry, reflecting the academic community’s focus and enthusiasm for research on new cultural consumption scenarios.
