The National Education Conference recently held clearly stated the need to deeply advance the integration of ideological and political education across primary, secondary, and higher education, aiming to comprehensively enhance the quality and level of such courses. Against this backdrop, on the morning of September 28, the 9th “Biweekly Policy Analysis Meeting” was successfully organized by the National Academy of Development and Strategy of Renmin University of China and hosted by the Center for Human Resources and Development Research at the same institution at RUC. The title is “Seminar on the Integration of Ideological and Political Education across Primary, Secondary, and Higher Education”. The event gathered numerous experts, scholars, administrators, and frontline teachers from the education sector to discuss the challenges and achievements in the integration of ideological and political education across all educational levels.
The seminar was chaired by Professor Qin Huimin, a distinguished professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University and Dean of the School of International Education. In his opening speech, Dean Qin stated that the seminar would focus on the integration of ideological and political education across primary, secondary, and higher education. He encouraged experts to share insights and work together to explore ways to better promote the integration of ideological and political education and contribute to the cultivation of qualified builders and reliable successors for the new era.
Deng Chuanhuai, Executive Vice Chairman of the Academic Committee of the Chinese Society of Education and former Director of the Department of Policy and Regulations at the Ministry of Education, delivered a keynote speech titled “Deeply Understanding the Spirit of the National Education Conference and Fully Implementing the Party’s Educational Policies”. In his speech, Deng emphasized the importance of deepening the construction of a strong education system in schools, including the “Six Forces” in education, the 59-character educational policy, the “Four Services” of higher education, and the significance of offering ideological and political courses. He conducted an in-depth analysis of how to comprehensively implement the Party’s educational policies and offered practical suggestions.
Professor Zhou Guangli, Dean of the School of Education at Renmin University of China, delivered a keynote speech titled “Integrated Development of Education, Science, and Technology Talent”. Dean Zhou highlighted the current trends in the development of education and technology, emphasized the importance of Article 5 of the Education Law, and explained the “three major attributes” of education. He explored how to use technological means to drive educational reform, achieve integrated development of talent, and cultivate top-tier innovative talents in education and technology. He also provided innovative suggestions for further improving the teaching quality of ideological and political education.
Zhong Lanfang, Deputy Director of the Party and Government Office at Renmin University, Deputy Party Secretary of the General Party Branch of the Renmin University Affiliated High School and United School, and Vice Principal of Renmin University Affiliated High School, spoke on the “Challenges and Current Status of the Integration of ideological and political Education across Primary, Secondary, and Higher Education”. Drawing from practical work experience, Principal Zhong analyzed the current status and challenges of integrating ideological and political education and proposed a series of practical improvements.
Song Chao, Vice Principal of Renmin University Affiliated Primary School, shared innovative practices in ideological and political education under the theme “Innovation in the Integration of ideological and political Education across Primary, Secondary, and Higher Education”. Principal Song pointed out that innovation is the key factor in promoting the integration of ideological and political education and that a combination of teacher development, textbook optimization, research activities, and other strategies is necessary to continuously explore teaching methods suitable for students of different age groups.
Professor Liu Ying, Director of the Center for Human Resources and Development Research at the National Academy of Development and Strategy at Renmin University, elaborated on the approach to evaluating the effectiveness of the integration of ideological and political education across primary, secondary, and higher education. Professor Liu emphasized that establishing a scientific and reasonable evaluation system is essential for assessing the results of the integration and proposed a preliminary evaluation framework. She stressed the need to creatively develop evaluation indicators for the integration of ideological and political education, explore innovative evaluation schemes, and implement recommendations to further advance the integration.
During the discussion session, several experts, including Associate Professor Zhou Xiang from the School of Education at Renmin University, Associate Professor Duan Hui, Associate Professor Cao Qi, and Dr. Feng Wenting from the National Academy of Development and Strategy, along with Guo Haixia from the Training Center at the School of Public Administration, and Yu Weifang from the Administrative Office of the School of Public Administration, also shared their insights and engaged in further discussion.
The seminar actively responded to the spirit of the National Education Conference, and experts unanimously agreed that the integration of ideological and political education is an important measure for fulfilling the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. The seminar not only provided a valuable platform for exchange but also offered new directions for advancing the integration of ideological and political education across primary, secondary, and higher education. The integration of ideological and political education is a long-term, systematic project that requires the joint efforts of the government, schools, and society. We are confident that we can achieve the goal of further promoting the high-quality development of ideological and political education, cultivating more socially responsible and mission-driven young people, and better serving the overall development of China’s education system.
