MarOn March 21, a delegation led by Shao Hong, Vice-Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Executive Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee of Jiu San Society, attended the inaugural meeting of the Research Center for Political Participation and Deliberation, Renmin University of China (RUC) (the Center for short) and paid a special visit to the “National Top Think Tank Construction Achievement Exhibition” organized by National Academy of Development and Strategy, RUC (NADS). The delegation had an in-depth exchange and discussion with RUC on how to blaze new trails in systems and mechanisms and increase the quality of government decision-making consultation after the Center was attached to NADS. It was accompanied by RUC leaders including Jin Nuo, Secretary of the Party Committee of RUC and Chairwoman of NADS.
During the visit, NADS Executive Dean Yan Jinming introduced the overall operation of NADS to Vice-Chairman Shao Hong and his delegation. He said that NADS, as a new think tank with Chinese characteristics built through maximum efforts of RUC and one of the 25 “China Top Think Tanks” pilot units in the first batch, was committed to developing into a “trustable and useful” world first-class university think tank for the Party and the government. Later, Yan detailed the achievements and experience of NADS in decision-making consultation, think tank diplomacy, brand activities, social impacts, local cooperation, systems and mechanisms, among others.
Vice-Chairman Shao Hong highly appreciated the remarkable achievements made by NADS over the past five years. He stated that the Center worked on building a think tank platform based on political party-university cooperation, supported by integration of quality resources and oriented towards high-quality suggestions for government decision-making, and had demonstration effects nationwide. He expected the Center to draw valuable experience from NADS in think tank construction and offer high-level research results and intellectual support for Jiu San Society in political participation and deliberation, democratic supervision and political consultation.
NADS Chairwoman Jin Nuo indicated that the Center should maintain a high political stance and strive to be a model “top think tank” jointly built by a nationally leading university with significant academic and social impacts and a democratic party. Jin stressed that the Center should remain problem-oriented, engage and study real problems, put forward suggestions and proposals that make sense to the development of the Party and the country, and form valuable and high-quality think tank fruits. She also raised specific requirements on the leadership structure and working mechanism of the Center and expected that the two sides could plan in advance, establish a detailed working mechanism, work hard and contribute to the exploration into new models and paths of all-round cooperation, which focuses on the central task and serves the overall interests, between socialist universities with Chinese characteristics and socialist participating parties with Chinese characteristics.
On the same day, the Research Center for Political Participation and Deliberation jointly built by RUC and Jiu San Society was formally founded. Vice-Chairman Shao Hong and Secretary Jin Nuo signed a cooperation agreement on behalf of the two sides, and inaugurated the Center together with Lai Ming, Standing Member and Deputy Secretary-General of the CPPCC and Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee of Jiu San Society.
