MarThe delegation of Renmin University of China (RUC), led by Lin Shangli, the President of RUC, visited Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from January 24th to 28th.
They met with Lee Ka Chiu John, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Zheng Yanxiong, the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. They also visited the Labour and Welfare Bureau, the Innovation and Technology Bureau, and the Hong Kong Productivity Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. Meetings were held with important partner universities in Hong Kong, including the University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Polytechnic University. They also visited key enterprises and institutions in Hong Kong, such as the Bauhinia Culture Group, China Merchants Group, Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China, and the Hong Kong Financial Service Institute.
During the visit, Lin Shangli attended the Chinese Alumni Association's Spring Festival annual meeting and had discussions with alumni representatives from Hong Kong and Macau.
The purpose of this visit was to fully leverage the university's advantages to implement major national strategies such as the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, promote the university's connections and cooperation with various sectors in Hong Kong, and actively provide the development of the Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong.
On January 26th, the delegation met with Lee Ka Chiu John, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Lin Shangli introduced the cooperation between RUC and Hong Kong. He stated that the university will focus on national strategies and Hong Kong's needs, rely on its advantageous disciplines to contribute to Hong Kong's development and provide intellectual support and talent assurance for Hong Kong's economic and social development. Lee Ka Chiu John expressed the hope that RUC, with its unique advantages in the field of humanities and social sciences, would play a leading role in closely cooperating with Hong Kong in higher education exchange, cutting edge research, and governance talent cultivation.
On January 27th, the delegation visited the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and met with Director Zheng Yanxiong and Deputy Director Lu Xinning. Lin Shangli pointed out that the university is willing to deepen cooperation with various sectors in Hong Kong based on high-quality academic resources and research capabilities, helping Hong Kong leverage its significant advantages of being backed by the motherland and connected to the world, better integrate into the national development, and play a greater role in realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Zheng Yanxiong affirmed the strong support that RUC has given to the development of higher education in Hong Kong and expressed the hope that the university would further strengthen its communication and cooperation with Hong Kong, provide strong talent support for Hong Kong's development, and make new contributions to the high-quality construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
During their time in Hong Kong, the delegation visited the Labour and Welfare Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Innovation and Technology Bureau, and the Hong Kong Productivity Council. Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Chris SUN Yuk-han, highly praised RUC's educational philosophy, development positioning, and student outcomes.
The Secretary for Innovation and Technology and Industry Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Sun Dong, expressed the hope to strengthen complementary advantages with RUC and deepen cooperation in innovative scientific research, artificial intelligence research, and applications.
The President of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, Mohamed Din BUTT, MH, introduced Hong Kong's innovative measures in promoting industrial productivity and expressed the hope that both sides would engage in practical cooperation in areas such as innovative talent cultivation.
To further advance high-quality cooperation with partner universities and prompt the construction of a high-level talent hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the delegation visited the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, and other institutions. They had in-depth discussions on establishing joint research centers, conducting joint training programs, and exploring new perspectives, approaches, and initiatives for cultivating talents with stronger competitive advantages.
At the University of Hong Kong, Lin Shangli had friendly discussions with the President, Zhang Xiang, on the establishment of an academically open research platform, and the expansion of the cooperative space between the two universities.
At Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Lin Shangli and the President, Teng Jin-Guang, reached a consensus on establishing a joint research center and conducting joint training programs.
At City University of Hong Kong, Lin Shangli had in-depth exchanges with the President, Freddy Boey, on innovative research-based talent cultivation models and strategies for enhancing cooperation between the two universities.
In addition to the university visits, the delegation also visited key enterprises and institutions in Hong Kong. They met with representatives from the Bauhinia Culture Group, China Merchants Group, Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China, and the Hong Kong Financial Service Institute. These visits aimed to explore collaboration opportunities in areas such as cultural exchanges, business development, and financial management.
During his visit, Lin Shangli had a meeting with Chairman Xu Zhengzhong at the Bauhinia Culture Group, where they decided to establish close cooperation in academic branding, academic publishing, research projects, and youth development.
At the China Merchants Group, Lin Shangli met with Chairman Miao Jianmin, and both parties agreed to intensify comprehensive cooperation, prompt the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, and cultivate more talents for strategic emerging industries to fully support high-quality development.
At the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Group, Lin Shangli met with Cai Yi, the President of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China, and Cherish, the founding President of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China and Executive Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Group. They had in-depth discussions on enhancing cooperation in supporting the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road Initiative.
At the Hong Kong Financial Service Institute, Lin Shangli met with President Wang Zhongying, and they explored ways to advance talent cultivation in key areas.
During the visit, Lin Shangli also presented the Chinese Alumni Association's Spring Festival annual meeting and had discussions with alumni representatives from Hong Kong and Macau. This attendance provided an opportunity to strengthen ties between the university and its alumni network and discuss potential areas of cooperation and support.
Officials from the Office of the CPC Committee, Department of Enrollment and Career, International Office (HongKong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs Office), Office of Alumni Affairs, and the School of Advanced Social Sciences (Shenzhen) of RUC also presented relevant activities.
