RUC NADS Held “A Survey of National Commercial System Reform” Lecture

On November 30, 2018, Professor Xu Xianxiang, Director of the Department of Economics at Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University was invited to have a lecture of “A Survey of National Commercial System Reform” at Room 2114 of Public Teaching Building, RUC. The lecture is the 6th seminar on “To Face the Real World” Lecture series held by National Academy of Development and Strategy, RUC.

Professor Nie Huihua, Deputy Dean of NADS moderated the lecture, Ma Liang, Associate Professor at School of Public Administration and Policy and Assistant to Dean of NADS, Zhangnan Diyang, Associate Professor at School of Public Administration and Policy and Deputy-director of NADS Government-Enterprise Relationship Research Center, attended the lecture and joined the discussion.

In cooperation with Institute of Social Science Survey, Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Xu Xianxiang led a research team to conduct a survey of commercial system reform, sending 36 researchers to 182 districts in 84 cities of 16 provinces. After 30 days investigation, the team completed 146 questionnaires of government affairs service hall and 4160 questionnaires of enterprises. Xu and his team analyzed the national commercial system reform from four dimensions of market entity business registration, permits applications, market supervision and digital government. Through comparative study of the feedbacks from both government and enterprise, Xu can evaluate the progress made in commercial system reform and find solutions to deal with the problems.

Associate Professor Ma Liang expressed that it is of great significance to have field survey as the team could face the real world and find something interesting in details from reality. Associate Professor Zhangnan Diyang stated that it’s very impressive the team can manage such an extensive survey. Further digging and in-depth research can be continued in regard to issues like regional differences, reasons why enterprises feel hard to do business, differences between different enterprises, and the mismatching of subjective perception and objective realities.

Students and teachers from School of Economics, RUC participated actively in the session of Q&A, and benefited a lot from the lecture given by Professor Xu Xianxiang.
