The 18th Issue of Policy Briefing, NADS: The New Trend of Russia’s Policies on the U.S. and China’s Responding Strategies

In the early morning of 9th November, 2016, after Donald Trump’s winning, President Putin sent his congratulation to Trump and wished the tension between the two countries could be removed as soon as possible, and conducted constructive communication. After that, the future trend of U.S.-Russia relations attracted attention of the international community and also raised much doubts. As a major player, how will Russia think of U.S.-Russia relations under the Trump Administration? What will the adjustment on foreign policies? What are Russia’s preference in U.S.-Russia negotiation? What impact will the trend have on the two countries’ relation? Overall, Russia has stated that Trump being elected provided an opportunity for improving the relationship between Russia and the West. The Russia government adjusts its diplomatic policies in order to push forward cooperation on many issues. One the one hand, the strategic trust between Russia and U.S. cannot be established in short time due to the restriction at home. It is difficult to make breakthrough in any field except anti-terrorism. On the other hand, the longtime warming up between Russia and U.S. will damage the foundation of Sino-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. In response, China need to strengthen the connectivity and cooperation of the “OROB” and EEU, enlarge Sino-Russia cooperation in more field than security to enhance the two countries’ relation.
